The memorable part of a place is not always its biggest feature. Sometimes it is an unexpected colour, a line of type, or the way a familiar shape appears in an unfamiliar setting.

## Keep the contract familiar

Navigation should not be a puzzle. Reading should not require learning a gesture. Motion should not ask for more attention than the content deserves.

Within those constraints, there is room for a great deal of character. A strong silhouette and a deliberate palette can do more than a dozen decorative effects.

> Surprise the eye. Do not surprise the keyboard.

A reduced-motion version should feel designed, not abandoned. A narrow screen should have its own composition, not the leftovers of a larger one.
