A link is a small promise: follow this address and you will find the thing described by these words. The promise is simple enough for both a person and a software agent to understand.

## Prefer clear destinations

“Read the API documentation” communicates more than “Discover more.” It tells a reader what kind of resource comes next, before they spend time opening it.

> The smallest interface can still be generous.

Stable addresses and semantic HTML reduce the work required to navigate. They also make a site less dependent on a particular screen size, input device, or JavaScript runtime.

Visual expression belongs around that contract, not in place of it. A beautiful link must remain a link.
